Eastern University seeks a visionary strategic planner and dynamic executer with a successful track record to serve as its next Vice President for Advancement. With an advancement team of ten individuals, Eastern University has grown its fundraising achievements in recent years to more than $3 million in annual gifts. Presently the University desires to elevate its performance in response to its strategic plan that calls for a robust annual campaign and capital investments that will add quality to its academic and athletic programs. Future projects will include a nursing simulation laboratory, a student learning commons and athletic facilities to support a growing NCAA Div. III Men’s and Women’s program.
Reporting to the President, the Vice President for Advancement provides strategic leadership and direction for all development and alumni engagement efforts and serves as an integral member of the University Leadership Team. The Vice President for Advancement, through sincere and heartfelt relationship-building, community outreach and trust, is tasked with designing, implementing and executing comprehensive institutional advancement strategies and developing talented team members focused toward the ultimate goal of significantly increasing constituent involvement and fundraising outcomes.
The successful candidate will be a visible Christian leader and give witness as a person who lives a life that honors the Lord Jesus Christ and is consonant with the Faith Statement of Eastern University and will:
Demonstrate leadership skills through shared vision, clarified direction, inspired followers, managerial courage and mutual accountability.
Display a record of leadership and accomplishment in advancement with a proven track record of fundraising success, including capital campaign planning and execution.
Exhibit a strong “roll up the sleeves” work ethic, competitive nature, personal integrity, emotional intelligence, a sense of humor, excellent communication skills, strategic thinking and planning skills.
Demonstrate strong organizational skills and the clear ability to plan and execute.
Communicate information clearly and effectively through both oral and written means. Exemplary interpersonal skills are essential as is the ability to favorably affect sophisticated volunteers and donors.
Exhibit a background in developing traditional and digital marketing strategies that successfully deliver results in driving donor interest, involvement and investment.
Manage effectively within a complex organization, exercising sound judgement and achieving results with minimal supervision.
Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree is preferred as is CFRE or other fundraising certification.
A minimum of ten years of experience as a senior level advancement professional, preferably in Christian higher education.
Proven track record of providing strategic direction for a comprehensive fundraising program with evidence of consistently exceeding goals for revenue growth.
Evidence of having personally raised $5-10 million in major gifts from individuals.
Capital campaign experience is required.
