Summary Description: The Assistant Director of Financial Aid is a full-time, benefit eligible position reporting to the Director of Student Financial Services. This role provides a variety of professional and administrative duties and leadership in support of the day-to-day operations of the Financial Aid Department for compliance with all policies related to compliance with internal and external financial aid requirements and policies.
Exercise discretion and independent judgment through interpretation, implementation, and research of federal and institutional policies and regulations in response to customer needs and departmental practices
Provide leadership for and supervise Financial Aid Counseling staff
Provide non-term and nonstandard term financial aid training to financial aid counselors and financial aid staff
Oversee policy and procedure updates for non-term and nonstandard term programs
Provide financial planning assistance and program eligibility information to students
Review documents, perform need analysis, make determinations, and award financial aid to eligible students implementing established guidelines and procedures
Serve as the key person for Return of Funds processing
Maintain integrity of timely student financial aid requests through filing, correspondence, tracking, reporting and verification
Be up to date on prevailing State and Federal regulations and WPU policies and procedures by attending training and conferences as opportunities arise
Provide collaborative leadership by representing Financial Aid during interdepartmental leadership meetings
Provide shared representation during scheduled events including but not limited to registration, orientation or recruitment
Be present in the office on a daily basis unless arrangements are made with the employee’s direct supervisor
Contribute to the support and implementation of the University Strategic Plan
Participate in Warner Pacific University professional development opportunities
Adhere to University policies and procedures regarding financial aid and student financial services
Abide by NASFAA Principles of Good Practice
Demonstrate commitment to a Christian liberal arts education by upholding to the mission of the University and abiding by the Employment Standards and Lifestyle Agreement

Other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s Degree required
Minimum two to three years experience in financial aid with increasing responsibilities
Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively solve problems and initiate and implement projects independently
Ability to multi-task with accuracy and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Ability to adapt and work effectively in a varied-paced or fast-paced environment
Excellent ability to work with highly detailed and confidential information
Excellent self-motivation, written communication skills, and the ability to work well with faculty, staff, and adult learners
Skill in effective oral communication and public presentations
Proficient in computer programs including Windows, Outlook, Word and Excel, and the Internet
Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of people and commitment to diversity
Experience in financial aid non-term and nonstandard term delivery methods
Experience working with adult learners
Supervisory role experience
Physical Demands – Work Environment: The position is located in a typical office environment. Professional/business casual attire is required.
