Essential Characteristics and Skills: The Dean of the Keeran School of Education is first and foremost a Christian of mature faith with the capacity to clearly articulate his/her relationship with Jesus Christ. The Dean is committed to advancing the mission of KCU and is able to manage a team and effectively monitor and measure outcomes for continued success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Dean of the Keeran School of Education has the following duties and responsibilities:
Provide leadership to the Keeran School of Education.
Coordinate the operations of the Keeran School of Education.
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with the administration of the University, other divisions and departments within the University, related facilities, and community.
Participate in the preparation and administration of the Keeran School of Education budget.
Screen and recommend candidates for faculty appointment, retention, and promotion.
Develop and oversee admission, retention, and progression criteria.
Develop and implement program policies.
Facilitate continuing academic and professional development for the faculty.
Insure the faculty shall be adequate in number and composition to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the Keeran School of Education and its curriculum in relation to the stated purpose, philosophy, objectives, number of classes, and students admitted annually.
Mentor Keeran School of Education faculty to enhance their teaching role.
Represent the Keeran School of Education on the Academic Council and other committees.
Represent the University as a spokesperson to the various publics to which it addresses itself, and provide such information as may be necessary to assure clear understanding of the state of the Keeran School of Education, its needs, and its mission.
Ensure that all faculty and staff positions within the Keeran School of Education are filled with qualified individuals for both present and future needs.
Promote coordination of the strategic planning efforts as the efforts relate to the Keeran School of Education.
Ensure that the Keeran School of Education complies with all Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges regulations and standards of accreditation.
Represent the Keeran School of Education and provide leadership within the larger academic community and professional associations.
Participate in institutional advancement activities as requested by the VP of Advancement related to annual fundraising.
Supervise, develop, and review the performance of those positions that report to the Dean of the Keeran School of Education.
Take an active leadership role in the recruitment and retention of Keeran School of Education students. This includes personal involvement as well as ensuring appropriate levels of involvement by Keeran School of Education faculty members.
Maintain and comply with all policies, rules, and regulations included in the KCU Staff Handbook and the KCU Way.
Additional duties that may be required or assigned.
Education: The Dean of the Keeran School of Education must hold an earned doctorate from a regionally-accredited institution in a discipline related to the educational programs of the Keeran School of Education.
Experience: The Dean of the Keeran School of Education must be an experienced faculty member, and must have served previously in capacities that demonstrate the ability to lead faculty in continual improvement. The Dean must have a working knowledge of both public and private K-12 education, preferably gained through prior professional experience as a teacher, principal, and/or superintendent. Due to current needs, the ideal candidate will bring preparation through education and/or experience in two of the following three areas: elementary education, local school or central office administration, and reading/literacy.

The Dean must be a self-starter who inspires excellence in others by his/her own work ethic. The Dean of the Keeran School of Education must accept ownership of her/his area of responsibility and provide leadership throughout the University community.
