Assistant/Associate Professor of Creative Writing; Rank Negotiable
REPORTS TO: Chair, Department of Humanities
Southeastern University invites applications and nominations for a faculty member qualified to teach undergraduate courses in Creative Writing. Candidates with a terminal degree (Ph.D. or MFA) and a specialization in fiction are preferred. The position is full-time for a ten-month academic year. Salary is commensurate with experience and degree held at the time of appointment. Preference is given to applicants who have published fictional works and with a track record of quality professional work experience in the field. The faculty member reports to the Chair, Dean, and ultimately to the Provost. The normal teaching load is 24 credit hours per academic year: 12 hours for the fall semester and 12 hours for the spring semester. The position entails teaching, advising, university and community service, and scholarship.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach Creative Writing.
Help develop the Creative Writing program.
Advise and mentor undergraduate students
Serve on department and university committees.
Demonstrate professionalism and integrity.
Perform additional duties and functions as assigned by the Chair.
Earned Ph.D. or MFA in Creative Writing
Experience teaching Creative Writing
Published Fiction, either Novel or Short Story
Significant experience in the world of writing and publishing
Excellent oral and written language skills
Outstanding Christian character
Positive recommendations from previous employers
Evidence of successful experience teaching and mentoring at the collegiate level
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
