The Vice President for Athletics is responsible for providing vision, leadership, administrative direction and oversight to Anderson University’s intercollegiate athletic program. This position works collaboratively with other AU departments in leading the athletic program in support of the University's distinctive mission, core values and goals. The Vice President for Athletics reports directly to the President, serves on the Senior Leadership Team, and works closely with the Senior Vice President for Development and Presidential Affairs (dotted line relationship) on operational responsibilities.
Supervise all Athletic department staff.
Develop and coordinate all athletic fund-raising and revenue development activities with the Development Office and director of the Trojan Club. Annually oversee Trojan Club membership and revenue expansion. Cultivate and maintain a sense of belonging and great hospitality among Trojan Club members.
Ensure that the Athletic department mirrors and enhances the University’s overall wholesome campus culture.
Ensure opportunities for student-athletes in community involvement, partnerships, and service initiatives.
Assist with the annual preparation of athletic budgets. Monitor and approve all departmental expenditures and the monthly budget reports. Monitor and suggest annual adjustments in budgets based on achieving and maintaining budgets at or above SAC mean/averages.
Review and approve all athletic agreements/contracts for intercollegiate competition on behalf of Anderson University, offers of athletic grant-in-aid and NCAA squad lists.
Monitor and maintain optimum squad capacity based on annual goals.
Give attention to proper supervision of employees, policies, procedures and practices in the athletic department to ensure understanding of and abiding by institutional, NCAA, SOUTH ATLANTIC CONFERENCE, Title IX and all state and federal laws, rules and regulations.
Represent the institution at appropriate conference, regional and national meetings.
Establishes and coordinates departmental goals. Give attention to risk management practices and policies in the athletic department.
Coordinate student-athlete drug testing procedures with the Head Trainer.
Oversee all athletic facilities, including use for games and practice. Arrange for security and ticket sales at appropriate athletic events. Coordinate with staff any improvements to facilities. Give attention to the continuous improvement of athletic facilities.
Responsible for "Student Right to Know" act pertaining to the athletic department. Prepare government reports with information on graduates by sport, sex and race. Supply coaches, administration, and prospective student-athletes with information.
Provide leadership to create and maintain an environment that assures student athlete well-being including success in academic eligibility, progression, graduation rates, and the integration of all athletes into the campus community.
Supply data for Academic Success Rate and graduation rates and other athletic data needed by Institutional Research.
Advise the President, Athletic Council, and Faculty Athletic Representative on all aspects of the athletic program on a regular basis.
Represent the athletic department on appropriate University committees.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s or doctoral degree in appropriate field preferred.
Minimum of three years of administrative experience in intercollegiate athletics.
Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills.
Strong technological skills including Microsoft Office and other relevant software needed to operate a successful intercollegiate athletic program.
