The Media, Journalism and Public Relations department at Biola University seeks a tenure-track assistant/associate professor in public relations to join a growing, nationally recognized program that emphasizes experiential learning, digital media expertise and rigorous professional preparation. The public relations program has grown rapidly over the four years since its launch and now provides five concentration options for students, an award-winning student Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, a student-run firm, and an honors society.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate public relations courses such as introduction to public relations, media relations, advanced campaign design & analysis, principles of advertising, crisis public relations, event design and seminar courses. The applicant should be willing to develop and maintain contacts with public relations professionals sufficient to support student work in community engagement, internships, and independent projects. Additional areas of responsibility will include serving as an academic adviser and being the faculty adviser to the nationally affiliated student-run firm, 6th Street. The normal teaching load is 4:4 (12 hours per semester). Faculty have the additional option of teaching over the summer.

Department and University Overview: Biola University is a small, private Christian university that serves a student population of over 6,000. Located in La Mirada, Biola University is situated on the border between Los Angeles and Orange County, home to one of the most diverse metropolitan areas in the world. This affords our students with strong opportunities for internships, job placement, service learning projects and networking with some of the most prestigious and well-known public relations organizations in the world. In addition, the Los Angeles market is home to numerous global and national non-profits and corporations that provide PR opportunities for our students.
The Media, Journalism & Public Relations department has over 200 majors, where students select a B.A. degree in either Public Relations or Journalism & Integrated Media. There are currently six full-time faculty in the department. In addition to the previously mentioned PR co-curricular opportunities, the department also has an award-winning student-run magazine (the Point); newspaper (The Chimes); broadcast news program (Eagle Vision); and radio station (The Torch).

Required Minimum Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. (ABD will be considered) in public relations or a related field, combined with professional experience. Non-terminal degrees will be considered with significant public relations experiences. Strong candidates will also have a demonstrated focus on scholarship and a track record of successful teaching. APR preferred. The position is to begin August 2018.
