San Diego Christian College is seeking a full-time faculty, who serves as teaching faculty in the Department of Business. The department currently offers a Bachelor’s degree program in Business. The position begins Fall 2017, but will remain open until a suitable candidate is selected.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach a schedule of classes commensurate to approximately 12 units per semester (four traditional courses). May be assigned online or adult courses as part of the load. Participate in normal administrative duties of faculty members including but not limited to participation in institutional committees, the Faculty Forum, registration activities, and preparation of course materials and syllabi. Assist in recruitment of department faculty and majors and provide both academic and spiritual counsel to students electing to major in Business at SDC. Willingness to lead and be involved with department sponsored extra-curricular activities.

Stay conversant with the philosophical and pedagogical developments in one’s field
Conduct self-evaluation as required
Attend Faculty Forum meetings
Support department efforts for program development and maintenance
Discharge administrative duties as assigned

Course Preparation Responsibilities
Attend the Fall Orientation
Review syllabi and select textbooks and/or course materials
Conduct textbook selection for courses assigned or not staffed under your leadership
Prepare syllabi for each course in accordance with guidelines provided in the Faculty Handbook
Post copies of syllabi on Edvance 360 course site prior to the first day of class
Submit digital copy of syllabi to the appropriate supervisor and to the Vice President for Academics one week prior to the first day of class
Take attendance at each class session and record attendance through the proper system
Prepare for each class session, taking into consideration diversities in learning styles
Be present to teach every class or provide for a qualified substitute in the case of your absence
Maintain regularly scheduled office hours totaling ten hours per week across four days of the week
Respond to student emails within 48 hours
Plan for and provide alternatives for students to make-up work in the event of an administratively excused absence
Plan for multiple assessment measures of student learning
Grade and return assignments in a timely manner ( i.e., within a week)
Plan for and meet during the allotted two-hour final exam times
Submit midterm grades through Empower Web by deadline on the Academic Calendar

Discharge duties related to committee membership (faculty typically serve on two committees)
Work with Student Success Coaches as academic advisor to assigned students
Participate with academic department chairs and Human Resources to recruit qualified full-time, part-time and adjunct faculty
Properly represent SDC with potential student families and community connections
Department Chair Essential Functions
Shared Responsibilities with Division Dean
Foster an ongoing dialogue among department faculty and with the Division Dean and Vice President for Academics in regards to the department's vision for development
Implement strategies for program development and program review, assessment and planning
Oversee any program related materials or facilities (labs, teaching aids, etc.)
Recruit, supervise, and evaluate full and part-time faculty
Plan and coordinate annual departmental course offerings
Monitor and recommend changes to department budget
Develop a climate of community within the department and the division
Promote the department both within and beyond the campus community
Review department course syllabi and insure that they are posted in a timely manner
Coordinate department's textbook orders
Prepare and modify department information in the college catalog and on the college website
Coordinate the department advising process
Maintain a contact list with department alumni
Oversee the completion of departmental program review as required by the institutional schedule for academic and co-curricular program assessment
Earned Doctorate in Business or related field of study. Preferred three to five years teaching experience at the undergraduate level, with specific experience in teaching both lower and upper division courses. Experience with program development would be helpful. Experience with curriculum development in both traditional and nontraditional formats, with the ability to integrate and relate biblical principles with business course content.
Skill in working with people including the ability to relate to students, faculty and other staff on both a professional and social level. Must be able to communicate well in both oral and written forms. A strong ministry orientation with interest in mentoring students both academically and spiritually. Commitment to the doctrinal position and teaching philosophy of San Diego Christian College, including a creationist view of origins. Evidence of those biblical characteristics associated with spiritual maturity and obedience to God’s Holy Word.
