POSITION DESCRIPTION: The English Department at Greenville College seeks applicants for a one-year position in Rhetoric & Composition in order to oversee college writing courses.
REQUIREMENTS: We seek candidates with a Ph.D., or those who are at least ABD in the field, in Rhetoric & Composition during the 2017-2018 academic year. Candidates with a concentration in composition are also welcome to apply. Applicants who demonstrate commitment to the integration of faith and learning and to competent inter-cultural teaching are preferred. A vibrant personal Christian faith commitment is required, as well as commitment to a broadly Wesleyan tradition. Previous teaching experience desired.
CONTEXT FOR THE POSITION: The purpose of this position is to offer emerging scholars the opportunity to gain valuable teaching experience in their field. Reciprocally, it provides the department and students the opportunity to interact with and learn from innovative, cutting-edge writing instruction.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The teaching load for this position is 4/4. In the fall and spring semesters, the instructor will teach sections of developmental English and introductory composition, with the possibility of one or more of these being taught online. No advising or committee responsibilities will be expected. A student worker (an upper-level English major) will be provided to assist with course management.
COMPENSATION: A salary of $35,000, paid over 12 months beginning in August will be provided. Additional compensation may be available through teaching opportunities during Interterm, May term, or Summer term. The Instructor will also have the option to participate in our employee medical/dental insurance plans.
