Reporting to the President of the College, the VPIA is one of five senior leaders of the College, working beside Vice Presidents for Academic Services, Adult & Graduate Studies, Student Development, and Business Services & Operations / Chief Financial Officer.
Champion and fulfill the Bethel College mission
Manage one's own portfolio of major gift prospects approximately 2/3 time, then 1/3 leadership and supervision of Division leaders:
Fundraising staff (Assistant Vice President for Advancement/Planned Giving, Major Gifts Development Officer, Annual Fund Director, Director of Advancement Research);
Refine and execute monthly work outcomes scorecards with IA staff on strategies in the GREATer Agenda, and add necessary metrics essential for the success of the IA division.
Cultivate more Friends of Bethel in the near community and region through outreach events and active small group networking
Steward current and recent donors
Enrich alumni services, alumni communication and increase the giving rate of Bethel alumni.
Support the Institutional Advancement Committee of the Board of Trustees as staff liaison.
Guide Marketing & Communications strategy and planning.
Contribute meaningfully to strategic, College-wide decisions in partnership with the other four vice presidents on the President's Cabinet
Refine and execute the $25 Million GREATer Agenda capital campaign, begun in March 2014 (see Institutional Summary below)
Deliver effective internal and external messaging and methods of communication to build greater awareness and total media impressions with targeted constituents, as an expression of our GREATer Agenda.
Other duties as assigned by the President to tailor the position around a candidate's strengths.
Master's degree preferred
Relevant certifications desired, but not mandatory (CFRE, etc.)
Experience with relevant professional organizations (CASE, etc.)
Proven track record in leading a team for Annual Fund drives and capital campaigns of requisite scale to Bethel's goals
Evidence of experience in personally closing major gift solicitations
Knowledge of estate planning
10 years of experience in senior leadership as an advancement professional
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Public speaking (large and small audiences)
Experience in staff professional development
Experience preferred with Christian Higher Education either as an alumnus or parent of a student or alumnus of a Christian college or work experience in Christian Higher Education
Demonstrated maturity in the Christian faith (i.e. beyond a profession of faith, the capacity to disciple another)
Capacity to articulate the merits of this affiliated denomination to denominational constituents, doctrinal comfort with College belief statements. However, denominational membership is not required.
