Assistant/Associate Professor of Choral Music
Area/Department: Academic Affairs/Music Reports to: Chair of the Music Department Position begins August 15, 2018
Position description: The Music Department at Simpson University invites applications for a full-time faculty position to begin August 15, 2018. The successful applicant will conduct the student chorale (open to music majors and non-majors), lead Simpson’s community chorus, and teach in a secondary area appropriate to the applicant’s strengths. The secondary area will represent 50% of the position’s loading, and could include any of the following: applied voice, music education, contemporary worship music, music theory, aural skills, or music history. Additional duties include a commitment to student recruitment and advising, committee work, and participation in faculty governance.
Position requirements: The successful candidate must be an enthusiastic, student-focused conductor who leads with superb rehearsal skills, effective physical gestures, and excellent musicality. The successful candidate must possess an understanding of multiple genres of choral music, be an engaging classroom teacher who is committed to student learning and the integration of faith into the classroom, and able to collaborate with colleagues for joint performances.
A doctorate in a music field is required and significant chorale conducting and teaching experience at the university level is preferred. Other desirable qualities may include experience as a K-12 music educator or church choir director/worship leader. Candidates must also be able to demonstrate a commitment to their Christian faith and be sympathetic with the goals and values of Simpson University.
