Faculty Careers - English Literature and Composition
Southern Wesleyan University’s College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for an assistant or associate professor level, 9-month, tenure-track position in English within its Humanities Division, beginning August 1, 2018. The university is actively seeking to increase the number of women and minorities within its faculty.
Primary teaching and administrative responsibilities will be in SWU’s on-campus English program, with possible additional teaching in SWU’s online program. SWU faculty carry a 12-credit hour/semester load.
Oversee program development and assessment, as well as student recruitment, advisement, mentoring, and supervision in the BA English and BA English Education degrees.
Continue to be conversant with and active in the scholarship of the discipline through research presentations at conferences and/or publishing in journals.
Demonstrate servant-leadership by engaging in service activities within the university and the larger community.
Academic. An earned doctorate in English. Preference will be given to applicants with previous teaching and administrative experience. The ideal candidate will have an interest in and university experience in teaching English courses; developing courses; and pursuing an active research agenda. Desire and/or experience in integrating the Christian faith with the teaching and practice of the discipline of English are essential. The entry level of the candidate will be determined by terminal degree, qualifications, and experience.

Technology. SWU is committed to maximizing the use of technology in its daily operations and in achieving its strategic goals. The ideal candidate will be comfortable and familiar with the use of technology within the academic environment including distance learning and learning management systems, web-based programs, and PC applications, including all Microsoft Office 365 applications.
