The Department of Music at Point Loma Nazarene University will hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Commercial Music to join our faculty starting August 28, 2018. The successful candidate will possess significant industry experience in an area such as songwriting, production, or audio engineering, or as a performer with significant experience as a pop/commercial vocalist or instrumentalist. All areas of expertise in the areas of music industry, commercial music and music technology will be considered.
We seek an engaging musician and educator whose experience, teaching, and service will prepare our students for careers in the music industry. The successful candidate will oversee the new BA in Commercial Music, help to attract students to the program, assist with oversight of the recording studios and music technology spaces, and teach in the candidate’s area of expertise. Demonstrated ties to the professional music scene and previous teaching experience are a plus as are ties to the world of Gospel, Praise and Worship or Contemporary Christian music.
Responsibilities for this position include teaching 12 units per semester in the candidate’s area of expertise, pursuing an active creative/research agenda, advising undergraduate students in Commercial Music, participating in faculty meetings and committees, providing other services to the University, and maintaining active ties to the music and recording industries.
Bachelor’s degree in Music Business, Commercial Music or Music Technology required, Master’s degree preferred. Significant industry experience a must.
