Gordon College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate professor of Computer Science appointment in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. Rank will be commensurate with experience. The position begins August 2018.
We are seeking someone who exhibits excellence in computer science and Christian commitment, and is passionate about teaching and mentoring undergraduate students from diverse cultural backgrounds in a Christian liberal arts setting.
Gordon College has a growing Computer Science program, in which faculty get to develop relationships with students over multiple years and courses. Class sizes are small, averaging 25 in the intro course, and under 15 in the others. Current faculty have a balance of academic and industry experience. Our Summer Practicum provides pre-internship experience for students, and a relationship with AIT-Budapest enables some computer science students to study abroad. We seek to apply computer science expertise to multi-disciplinary problems and needs.
We have strong relationships with local companies that provide our students valuable internship and employment opportunities, and a number of our students have participated in summer research programs. While most of our graduates take software or web development positions, some go on to graduate school. Employers consistently speak well of our graduates and frequently hire additional graduates.
The ideal candidate will:
Demonstrate a dynamic Christian faith
Excel at teaching and have a strong desire to develop long-term relationships with students
Show a commitment to nurturing and promoting diversity in their educational and professional communities
Have a Ph.D. in computer science or a closely related field completed by the time of appointment
Exhibit research momentum to continue research and include undergraduates in it
Complement and extend expertise in the department.
Gordon College is recruiting accomplished faculty who demonstrate the ability to combine outstanding scholarship with a passion for teaching and mentoring, and who are dedicated to preparing thoughtful Christian men and women for lives of service and leadership worldwide.
As one of the country's top liberal arts colleges with a vibrant Christian community, Gordon is uniquely positioned to lead the conversation at the intersection of faith and cultural engagement. We need scholars with a depth of understanding, a breadth of knowledge, and the desire to be part of the dialogue.
Interested applicants need to submit a Curriculum Vita that includes the names with contact information of 3 references, a sample of academic writing, and a letter of application that addresses their fit with the Christian mission of Gordon College and with the specific position.
The review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Gordon College is an Equal Opportunity Employer and believes that diversity is necessary to our ability to achieve our goals and educational mission. Women and men, and members of all racial and ethnic groups are encouraged to apply.
