Cedarville University seeks to hire a Three Dimensional Arts Shop Technician who will assist the 3-D Studio Art Professor in his/her shop duties. This position maintains 3-D studios and oversees the management of the 3-D facilities and tool room. This staff position is a full-time (1560 annual hours), non-exempt position that reports to the Chair of the Art, Design and Theatre Department.
Work Rooms Management
Design and conduct shop-safety orientations; maintain safe work conditions and comply with established safety policies, practices, procedures and requirements; maintain safety equipment inventory.
Maintain a clean, safe and organized shop
Coordinate, schedule and post open-shop hours
Maintain all modest housekeeping chores of the 3-D studio spaces
Maintain and supervise students to assure the overall cleanliness and safety of the studio spaces including all 3-D and ceramics studios
Assist in firing all kilns, including loading, unloading, cleaning, maintaining and monitoring. Will remain on call during the duration of any firing
Maintain all the shop’s glazes, clays, slips, and all other shop material as needed
Store and dispose of toxic materials according to established guidelines
Clean vacuums, dust collectors and other ventilation equipment
Assist with student workers as needed
Tool and Equipment Supervision
Manage hand-tool checkout system
Support and train faculty and students in the safe use and care of all tools and equipment
Maintain equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and coordinate repairs as needed
Maintain equipment and/or file all work orders to the proper people to maintain all 3-D facilities and studio spaces in good working order
Serve as a teaching assistant if/as needed
Assist 3-D Studio Art Professor in the preparation or demonstration of specialized instructional materials and procedures.
Assist in training students in the proper and safe use of tools and equipment
Authorize and document that students have been properly trained to operate tools and equipment
Assist the 3-D Studio Art Professor as it pertains to the shop or studios
Be able to drive a truck and van, make deliveries and pick up art and supplies as needed
Review and monitor budget and accounts as needed
Assist with researching and purchasing materials and equipment for the 3-D and ceramic areas
Maintain all inventory at proper levels and quantities
Assist in researching student opportunities that pertain to the visual arts
Education: B.S., B.A., or B.F.A. in Art or related field.
Demonstrate professional proficiency in the use of sculpture and ceramic shop equipment that pertains to but is not limited to wood, metal, and clay
Demonstrate organizational skills to maintain an efficient, safe and clean studio environment
REQUIRED MENTAL/PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Ability to professionally communicate to students on a personal level and in classroom situations
Ability to lift 50 pounds
