Grace College invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Modern Languages, to begin fall 2018. We seek an expert in French and Francophone Studies who has broad teaching interests in language and culture; we are especially interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following additional areas: additional languages (especially Spanish), TESOL, linguistics, language pedagogy, French/Francophone literature, and/or world literatures and cultures. Responsibilities include teaching, advising, curriculum development, university and departmental service, scholarly activity, and professional development. In addition to teaching in his or her areas of specialization, the successful candidate may teach some core courses such as Freshman Foundations and/or Global Perspectives (see course descriptions here), and will develop new upper-level French courses for our majors and minors.
The Languages, Literature, and Communication Department is housed within the School of Arts and Sciences, and offers degrees related to French, Spanish, world languages, TESOL, English, creative writing, journalism, and communication studies. Small but active and collegial, our department hosts many activities including French Café and Film Club, writers’ workshops, poetry readings, and a literary magazine. We welcome an innovative colleague who is enthusiastic about designing new courses, mentoring students, building intellectual community, and engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration. We also seek a colleague whose views are compatible with our institution’s doctrinal commitments as articulated in the Covenant of Faith and embodied in the Community Lifestyle Commitment (see links above).
