The Tim and Gail Buchanan endowed Chair in Fine Arts position was established to deliver education in the context of a Christian world view that recognizes Jesus Christ as Lord. The endowment provides the fine Arts chair with modest discretionary funds to support the goals of the Fine Arts division. The goal of the endowment is to attract a division chair who will live and educate in a manner that is consistent with the mission of the endowment and the university.
The Fine Arts Chair has supervisory responsibility over all faculty and staff members in the Fine Arts division. This position provides administrative and educational leadership to faculty and staff members of the Division of Fine Arts, leading and directing the educational, operational, financial, personnel and planning activities of the division. The successful candidate will work with faculty and administration to develop a vision for a thriving Fine Arts division. In addition to a normal workweek Monday through Friday, frequent additional evening and/or weekend hours will be required/requested. Responsibilities will include; leading the Fine Arts Division full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, and staff; evaluate and develop professional growth plans for faculty and staff; maintain visibility within the arts community of Wichita to ensure growth of the Fine Arts program; develop and implement plans for recruiting prospective students to the university; administer academic resources by planning and managing department and division budgets; provide leadership for meeting the National Association Schools of Music (NASM) accreditation requirements; participate in various committees as indicated in faculty handbook; perform other duties as assigned.
Friends University seeks applicants to fill a full-time Fine Arts Chair position to begin July 2018 in Wichita, Kansas. Requirements for this position include a minimum of three years in academic administration, with experience in traditional undergraduate education; the possession of a terminal degree in an arts-related discipline—a Doctorate degree is preferred. Other requisite skills include the ability to think outside the box, using creative and innovative approaches; the ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume, and changing environment; the possession of excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including experience and comfort in public speaking and presentations.
