Redeemer University College invites applications for the H. Evan Runner Chair of Philosophy, beginning July 1, 2018. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to perform research within and represent well the reformed philosophical tradition in the line of Augustine, Calvin, Dooyeweerd and Vollenhoven, the tradition from which Dr. Runner taught in a faithful and fruitful career to several generations of students. He or she should be appointable at the rank of full professor.
The purpose of the Runner Chair is to share the riches of the Reformed philosophical tradition with faculty colleagues, students, and external academic and community members in ways that help generate enthusiasm for that tradition. As such the successful candidate will be a strong communicator and be expected to maintain a vigorous academic writing and publishing record, give public addresses, participate in formal and informal mentoring and interactions with faculty colleagues, and teach undergraduate courses. The Runner Chair teaches three courses per year, including an introductory course in Reformational Philosophy as well as the “Faith and Philosophy” course in Redeemer's new Core Program and various other Philosophy courses as appropriate.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, three letters of reference, evidence of teaching quality, and a one- or two-page statement describing their personal faith commitment and philosophical background, and how these shape their academic and professional work.
