Administrative position (12-month) with Faculty status
POSITION: The Director of Library Services is an Administrative (12-month) Faculty position responsible and accountable for the overall operations and leadership of the Kinlaw Library and its staff. The Kinlaw Library was completed in 2001 and houses over 150,000 items in several collections of material in the 72,000 square foot building along with numerous online collections. The director will lead four library faculty members and several staff members in serving the university community through instruction, archives, reference, and other services.
ACADEMIC RANK: Administrative with Faculty status.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Full-time position working year-round/twelve months of the year.
Oversees the ongoing operations of the Library, including personnel management, fiscal management, facilities management, policy development, collection development, and online systems.
Develops, implements, and assesses plans for the Library as well as participates in broader planning activities of the University, including supporting the University Strategic Plan.
Advocates for the Library on campus and for the Library and the University beyond campus.
Manages personnel, including providing leadership to library faculty, library staff, and student workers in covering all library functions. This role assumes primary responsibility, in consultation with the Provost, for hiring employees.
Facilitates creation of job descriptions and follows through with evaluations: identifies training needs and develops proposals to meet such needs (including cross-training); schedules staff to ensure essential services are covered daily.
Plans, implements, and monitors the Library’s budget.
Works with the Director of Facilities to maintain the physical Library building, evaluates space needs and uses, and plans for modifications to existing facility and expansion possibilities.
Participates in all regular faculty duties including Faculty Assembly, Dean’s Council, and other committees or projects as necessary.
Maintains awareness of current trends in library services through reviews of literature and attending relevant conferences, workshops, and seminars
Assists library users at any time in person, on the phone, or by email.
Develops and maintains contacts with librarians across the CCC/CCCU and within the state of Kentucky in the interest of cooperation and collaboration.
Is present in the office on a daily basis unless arrangements are made with the employee's direct supervisor.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication, firmness, fairness, openness, patience, attention to detail, decision-making, analytical skills, and ability to set priorities. In order to successfully lead Kinlaw library, candidates must have a working knowledge of all library areas and have an earned master degree in library/information science. Candidates must provide evidence of at least five to seven years of administrative experience and experience supervising employees. A preferred candidate would have experience as a Director of Library Services in higher education.
